1,100 hp on snow and ice.
In 1973, Porsche dominated the North American Can-Am series with the 917/30. This race car delivered around 1,100 horsepower and set new standards in turbocharging and aerodynamics. A example 917/30 received a power increase in 1975 to about 1,230 hp and was driven by racer Mark Donohue to a new speed record on a closed racetrack. He averaged 355.85 mph on the Talladega Oval Course. Ahead of the F.A.T. Ice Race this weekend, the team at Porsche Heritage and Museum took our example of the 917/30 to a frozen lake for some winter footage.
